Mega Gate 2011 – Is this for Real???
So “Pitching Cornhole” found this and posted it on Facebook (http://www.americantailgatingleague.com/?MegaGatedetails). $100,000 in cash prizes in Vegas over Super Bowl weekend 2011 (coincidentally, the same weekend the ACO said the “King of Cornhole” would be).
It’s not quite the same as cornhole as there are two “holes” on the board, but appears to be the same other than that. So based on the ACO pulling out of the $25,000 guaranteed prize they promised and Slick Woody’s yet to pay a dime of the $14,000 they owe, can this be trusted? Is it for real??
My guess is, well, it is probably real, but they will not be paying out $100,000. In the write-up they state that prizes will be prorated if less than 350 teams participate. Umm, let’s see, 350 teams (which is about 3x larger than the largest cornhole tournament that I know of) AND $400 entry or more depending on when you sign-up.
While I think competition in any market is great, I’m not sure this is going to stick. Anyone have anymore information on this event?

i think this is crazy… first off it is $400 to play and not only that you have to go out to vegas and we all know the expenses that go along with that.. then they gotta have 350 teams for that payout? haha good luck with that, u wont even get 350 players for the singles at the KOC this year and its gonna be in cincy.. plus if you have looked at the payouts if you dont win the damn thing the best you can do is $5,000 for second.. that is a HUGE jump from $100,000 to $5,000 in just one place.. whoever is running definitely needs to adjust several things.. there may be some things i dont know about like their following on the west coast, which could be large but i am doubting it.. i would imagine it is about 50 players dedicated to it like it is on the east coast but who knows.. cool article but not gonna work out
Ya, as much as I would love to think this is real, anyone can run a tourney and say “$100,000 in prizes” and then in small print say “if 350 teams show up at $400/team” (knowing that it will never happend) I would like to say the Canton tournament was cooler because it was $14,000 GUARANTEED (no team limits), but apparently the word GUARANTEED no longer means anything, especially in the cornhole world.
Yeah, I am giving up on any payout.. Which is sad seeing as our money in Open doubles wasn’t even part of the “guaranteed” payout.. They paid out only 75% of what we put into it!!
Check that.. In Open SINGLES not Doubles
$100,000 Ha Ha….. I think this could b an ACO showdown…. If they do payout ACO looses some credit. If they dont pay… well then they are all full of shit… Congrats to all the big winners waiting on their money. Goodluck in the future…..
